On September 23 1983, Australia II, skippered by John Bertrand, finally ended the USA’s 132 year domination of the America’s Cup, breaking the longest winning-streak in sporting history, in a competition that pre-dates the modern Olympics.
In 2008, Perth Theatre Company presented the world premiere of Taking Liberty, to great acclaim. The play won the Equity Guild award for best new play.
In 2011, Taking Liberty was staged by Fremantle's Deckchair Theatre to coincide with the World Sailing Championships. Again, the play received excellent reviews, and audiences flocked to this memorable production.
